Who We Are

The BSDA is a Cambodian run NGO that was established in 2005 after villagers around the Wat Nokor Bachey temple west of Kampong Cham City criticized that the local monks would preach altruism in theory but hardly ever employ it. Deeply hurt, seven Monks founded the organization, financing it privatly throughout the first three years until their work had been noticed and international donors started to supply funding. By now, the chief donors are USAid and EcoSolidar, a Swiss organization supporting ecological and socially acceptable development.

The BSDA’s programs cover a large scope, ranging from Education and vocational training for vulnerable or poor Children over Community and democracy development to work with Drug users and the HIV/Aids infected. All projects have the secondary aim to teach good ethics to the participants and encourage them to contribute as well.

While being Buddhist led, BSDA still maintains religious neutrality and strives to better the communication between the religious groups in Cambodia.

The BSDA’s head office and some of our core projects are located in and around the Wat Nokor Bachey temple in Kampong Cham, Cambodia. We also run projects in the greater Kampong Cham province, Siem Reap, Kratie, Takeo and Svay Reang.
