With the IBEC (Improving Basic Education in Cambodia) project, the BSDA has entered into a close partnership with the Cambodian run NGO KAPE. BSDA focuses on facilitating and supporting student participation in target schools. Through this activity, IBEC increases democratic awareness, improves the school system and creates a closer link between the institutions and the communities. The project is active in 48 Secondary- and High Schools in Kampong Cham and Kratie where it strengthens student associations, gives workshops on leadership as well as government procedures and teaches participants of different cultural groups to work together more effectively. Another focus of IBEC is to improve the life of poor students. To achieve this end, the BSDA selects students for scholarships, gives life skill training and teaches sustainable agricultural practices to the target families.
